Yesterday, the world of web quaked by a new announcement from Google and it was all about a new version of Chrome backed by Linux kernel and is going to be the next OS for Netbooks. It will be released in the mid 2010.
I think some matters should be clearly defined in future:
1) What is the value in it? Does it reduce the cost to benefit the customers and on the other hand increase the number of sales to the extent that benefits manufacturer?
2) Where it is going to be placed? Netbooks supposed to be somewhere between mobile phones and laptops. Does it reduce the position of netbooks and create a gadget which is capable of running some widgets and surfing the net?
3) Is cloud computing that mature now? (or perhaps in near future?) It’s not only about the gadget itself, but service providers (down time etc) and connectivity problems.
4) What about rivals? Projects such as Midori, Gazelle and Windows 7 Starter edition from MS.
I like to see this: you are using Chrome OS and what is inside it? Live Mesh with the capability to act as your web desktop. I saw a demo (it was a blurred screenshot) which showed an application that was running in Live Mesh Web environment.
It seems players are exchanging their position gradually.
You can find more doubts here:
Will Google's Chrome OS look rusty by late 2010?
